Research

In the College, faculty are expected to be good teachers and first class scientists. Each year, the faculty bring to UMaine millions of dollars of external grants and contracts to support their research programs. The research program provides our students opportunities to get involved in research, and it opens up educational and work opportunities at numerous research sites around the state of Maine.

This research program gives our students two advantages not readily available at other schools without such a connection. First, it assures that the content of our courses is up-to-date with the most recent developments in the disciplines taught. Second, it provides thousands of hours of student employment relevant to degree programs, both during the semester and over the summer months.

In addition, most of the faculty in the college have joint appointments with the Maine Agricultural and Forest Experiment Station. This provides even more opportunities for students to get involved in research, and it opens up educational and work opportunities at numerous research sites around the state of Maine.
